Guest Post: Dana Bloede
Hi all, Looking online I ran across an amazing artist and if you remember my last post I’m asking for guest posts from artists to get our names out there to each other! Dana has a style that really appeals to me especially her Frida Kahlo work….She’s my hero and has my heart. Many of you know I suffer from chronic pain due to two failed back surgeries and I know Frida suffered her entire life from an accident that happened when she was 18….I believe that’s the right age…but her suffering in her paintings has always touched me so when I saw Dana’s portrayals of Frida, she had me!
So here’s what Dana Had to Share With Us and some of her wonderful artwork!
My paintings intentionally have a lot of texture and are made to look old. I find the texture brings something special to the portrait and its history. Finding the time to paint every day has really helped me develop. As an artist, you can’t just wake up one day and say I’m An Artist Here Me Roar, you have to practice and practice and practice, fine tune your craft and keep learning no matter what stage you’re at. I also think it’s important to take critiques on your work and your process as “helpful” and be thankful for it, not resentful. As a painter, my inspirations come from within, nature, the female perspective and society. My portraits are definitely personal but they aren‘t always about myself. They are typically about women that interest me; their stories and their histories. I paint portraits mostly from a historical perspective but always in connection with the future; I often combine the two worlds. Although I call myself a contemporary “folk” artist, it was at Chicago State University where I developed my style which is often viewed as “contemporary folk art” due to its simplicity and stylized brush strokes. You may see more of my work, as well as learn more about exhibiting indie art shows that I curate annually by joining my Artist FB Page http://www.facebook.com/artistdanabloede or visiting my website http://www.danabloede.com
